  • it depends on the amount of oxygen present. Steel rusts when the atoms in it slowly react together to form an oxide (rust). Other things can contribute to the time, ie) presure, temp ect xx
  • As a machining student, I learned that rust can form on naked steel in a matter of days, about ten if I remember correctly.
