  • I am using two models of Olympus digital point-and-shoot cameras: Stylus 710 (7.1 Mpix) and C740 Ultra Zoom (3.2 Mpix). Since they are both color-capable, I use editing software to render monochrome images, but the results are acceptable. Between the two, I typically grab the S710 first because it has sound with video, just in case, and accepts 2Gb xD memory cards, good for a lot of picture-taking, and compatible with my PC and two printers that have card slots. The software that came with each is good and friendly, and the optics are great although the cameras themselves are deceptively small for their features and performance. The additional optical viewfinder on the C740 is useful in bright ambient light, but both have excellent LCD panel displays. If you are looking for a digital SLR, I suggest Olympus but Canon is always an excellent choice, and both come in a wide range of prices. Canon is known for the wide array of lenses available.
  • Nikon D70 for sure, there's probably a new model now but the D70 12 months ago was the best camera going, I have 3 friends who cannot say a bad word about it
  • I use a Canon Rebel and I think it generates amazing black and whites after the fact. I shoot in color, low ISO, and edit using iPhoto on the mac, getting some great results. I was toying with getting a Leica M8 and would like to some day, but the Canon Rebel does just fine.
  • I don't know specifically for black and white, but the Sony SD1000 is a great camera for a decent price around 180-200 and it does have a black and white feature plus lots of other great features. Best Of Luck
