While it varies from person to person, and based on age and gender, and other factors, a fair average is about eight hours. The harder you work, the more sleep you may need. But it really varies a lot among people.

I just remember the old: "Six for a man, Seven for a woman, Eight for a fool."

Driving over the road I relied on 20 minute power naps during the trip, while home for 2 or more I would sleep for 12 hours or more(did this for 11 years). Now that I am relatively local a 300 mile radius, I get by on about 6 hours of sleep.

I would say between 6-8 depending on certain factors. age, general health, type of job. how much you do. If you have certain medical conditions you will need more, certain meds will require more. if you have a job that is boring, you may need more sleep to keep you awake at work so lots of factors

I usually find 5hrs is enough for me.If i sleep much longer i wake up feeling groggy and it takes awhile to shake the feeling.

It all depends on the individual what is important is not how much total hours of sleep an individual gets but how the individual cycles through the four stages of sleep and the amount of time spent on Stages N3 and N4, the deepest forms of sleep.
