jpeg, for its huge compatibility, .tif is a very good format though, comes in handy, and maintains good quality with a small filesize.

Most of the new SLR's can do raw which is the best quality you will ever get. Otherwise .jpeg are great then .tif when you export from Photoshop.

It depends what you're doing. I usually use jpgs or gifs. Both are small. Jpgs are generally pretty good quality, but gifs support transparency. It depends on your need.

.jpg is my typical choice, but sometimes I use .gif files.
