I was at a department store and I slipped and fell in a puddle of water someone left from mopping. There was no wet floor sign. I injured my knee and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Should I get a lawyer?

Yes, if for no other reason than to bring to the store’s attention its need to address preventable injury. Your lawyer can demand assurance of this by making them accountable for their negligence.

Any out of pocket expense or other losses to you as the injured party should be covered. There must be compensation for the injured.

Depending on what country you live in a settlement for injury should be fair and just.

Why not start by simply contacting the store management? In all likelihood, they (or their insurance) will cover all of your expenses, and a polite discussion about your inconvenience and temporary disability is likely to get a favorable response from them as well. Communicate with them in writing, so you have a record of your dialog with them. If they are recalcitrant, or you have reason to be that they are being negligent even after you've brought a hazard to their attention, you will have plenty of opportunity to pursue legal action after you've tried a more straightforward personal approach.

I would only hope you notified the manager of the store, at the time of your accident. you may be on shaky ground, if you did not. this should have been accomplished to put the store on alert, that an accident occured and the store can document it through a form furnished by the store. the store should at least, be liable for your medical bills associated with your fall. contacting an attorney, should be your last resort, if all else fails with the store management.

Who called the ambulance? My guess is the store. They were concerned for your well being. They will be expecting a call from your attorney. They expect you to settle. Are you going to pay for the ambulance? Are you going to pay for the hospital? You will get an attorney and settle for fair compensation of hospital fees, medication, theraphy, loss of wages etc. The attorneys will negotiate the settlement. Your attorney will be paid by the settlement from the store's insurance. The fact that you asked if you need lawyer leads me to beleive you are a honest person and are not looking to get enriched by deception. Hope your knee is better by the time you read this
