Information on employment opportunities for tellers is available from local offices of the State employment service. High School guidance departments might also provide information.

Most bank tellers need at least a high school diploma or GED, and some employers prefer to hire tellers who have had some experience in retail or customer service. Training is usually done on the job under the supervision of the head teller, loan officer, or bank manager, depending on the position, though some larger banks do offer formal classroom training.

Tellers and clerks may also become customer service representatives or new account clerks. With additional training, they can advance to managerial positions. Banks generally encourage upward mobility by providing access to education and other sources of additional training.

Typically prior experience or training is not required but helpful. Most major banks have links on their webpage to "employment" sections where applicants can apply. Other options would include visiting monster.com or other job searching sites.
