I added another 128 ram to an existing 128 ram but pc is detecting 131 mb ram in total.what happened?

It's likely that the new RAM you added is simply defective. One experiment to try would be to take out the old RAM, and put the new RAM into the same socket as the old one. If the computer won't start, that proves the new RAM is bad.

I presume that it simply didn't install.
