If a person dies after being announced as the winner of a Nobel Prize, what happens to the award that year?

It is still awarded. However a person can no longer receive the award if they die between being nominated and the prize being awarded. See the very useful and interesting site at http://nobelprize.org. In the unlikely event that you wish to nominate me I would be delighted to accept and hopefully would live long enough to receive it ;-)
