Yes, there is Christian rock music, just as there is Christian Swing, Christian Rap, Christian Folk etc. God is not offended by the style of music! Music is a vehicle for evangelism, and as such, the medium is the style of music that the listener relates to.
When David and the other psalmists write, they sometimes used the tunes of secular songs and put new words to them eg Psalm 22 has the introduction "For the director of music. To the tune of 'The Doe of the Morning'." That secular song must have been well known enough to tell the music leader exactly how the song would go. Similar instructions are given in Psalm 45, Psalm 57, 58, 59 (these three went to the song "Do Not Destroy") 60,69, 75 and 80.
This argument has been going on since the year dot. Which music is best? And the answer is always the same: the music of the people you are evangelising.

Luther used well-known pub tunes to put Christian words to, Queen Elizabeth 1 of England banned Calvin's songs because to her they were "jigs" (dance music). Wesley's hymns were downed by most mainline churches for years before they gained acceptance.

Can Rock music honour the Lord Jesus Christ? Yes it can. I am a Christian rock singer, and I believe that, as long as the words are clear and biblical, there is nothing to stop me using a rock beat.
As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 9:22
22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.

    Yes, of course.
Thinking that a certain rhythm, melody or style is inherently wrong or inappropriate for expressing one's feelings or views of oneself or the world in general (religion included) is to be very closed-minded, to me at least.

"Mixing this kind of music with Christianity" - ???
May I remind you that organs didn't exist in the early church age... do you have any arguments to show me why mixing THAT kind of music with 'Christianity' is ok?

God interned for us to use music to worship and praise him. He doesn't say what style that music should be in. Personally, I listen to contemporary Christian music. In church we play contemporary worship music, mostly Hillsong. It's really a matter of personal preference and not a moral issue.

I hear a great deal of debate on this, but I think singwell's answer was the best. Rock music is just that: music. I truly feel that the lyrics are where the message is. If a young person who is a fan of rock music becomes saved, it makes no sense to say that with salvation comes a love for Southern Gospel. In my mind, Southern Gospel is not fun to listen to. However, just because I don't like it does not mean that it is not good music. Many of our current hymns are taken from secular music -- rock is just another style. Some examples of great Christian rock artists are TobyMac, Casting Crowns, Third Day, Newsboys, and Jars of Clay. Now, you may not LIKE some of this -- that is your prerogative (my mother never liked dc Talk, the band TobyMac used to be in, but she didn't object to it). Just as you may not like opera or jazz, it's a matter of preference. For my part, I look at the walk of the artists: are they living a Christian life? Are their lyrics filled with the Spirit? Do they use their talents and time for the ministry? If the answer is yes, then their music is Christian. As with all songs, when you take out the music, it's just a poem.

What makes rock music unholy? Is it the guitars? The loud singing? Or is it nothing more than the bad connotations that people have with the style? If rock was associated with Christian lyrics first, then actual "hardcore" rockers would probably shy away from it because of what it was linked to--but it would still be the same music.

Christians like any other member of the public can use their skills. There is nothing wrong with music unless it is used for evil intent. Some music is clearly not within the Christian ethos and so is best left alone. When it comes to worship that is a different matter, it must be decent and in order, spirit led, Christ Honouring and God fearing! Rock music and any other popular styles does not easily fit that and neither do classical styles etc! I know that there are no bible references here but the bible does not cover such things!

While it wasn't Christian Rock, back in college, we periodically had a preacher stand out in the commons and speak to the students as they went from class to class. As I was walking by one day, he said "Rock and Roll is the music of the devil!" I didn't (I'm not good at speaking on my feet in a debate), but I wanted to turn around, go back to him and say "GOD gave me music. HE gave me the ability to write, play and sing. HE gives me the music and the words I write. How DARE you say that music of any type is the 'work of the devil'." and walk away.

Yes... Of COURSE there is such a thing as "Christian Rock". I have a friend who plays in a church band. There's a lot of it out there. If country, gospel and classical music can be "Christian", why can't Rock, Pop, Rap, and other types be, too?

In fact, I believe that many of the mainstream love songs could be sung in church for GOD and Jesus, not for a girl. That's one of the wonderful things about music. Being able to interpret a song in different ways.

well psalm 150 verse 3 states, "praise Him with the blast of trumpets" if a blast from a trumpet is ok then why not a blast from a guitar? I take it that there was loud music back then as well. In verse 4 he states, "praise Him with stringed instruments" That is surely a guitar. It doesn't say with a soft melody it just says a stringed instrument. There is nothing in there stating that it can't be loud. On the contrary, it can be loud if you go back to verse 3, the BLAST remember? Then verse 5 states, "Praise Him with a clash of cymbals; praise Him with a loud clanging of cymbals" That is drums surely. I know in Bible times they didn't have the type of drums we have now but that doesn't change the fact that they probably played loud back then too. It even states a LOUD clanging of cymbals. Even without today's instruments, I'm sure they played the same types of music generically speaking. I'm sure they still played a 1-5-6-4 or a 1-6-4-5 chord progression. Just because the music comes off as loud doesn't mean it can't produce music to praise the Lord

Music is music. Instruments make the genre, that's all. The lyrics are what make the song Cristian or not.

Religious music is supposed to be uplifting. Classical music fits perfectly. There is a trend to insert Christian lyrics into rock and other dancing rhythms like Merengue, Salsa and Reggaeton. It is just awful. Mundane music doesn't go with spirituality. There is nothing in the Scriptures regarding this topic, but common sense tells me and many others that dancing music and Religion are like gasoline and alcohol. They don't mix.

There are no scriptures that endorse one style of music over another. There is good music and not so good music from the point of view of my personal taste and there is music that is more intrinsic and natural than other music. I think there are certain volumes and frequency that are unhealthy to the ears and that is an important consideration. What makes music Christian is the intent of the composer and/or performer Bach dedicated all of his music "to the glory of God."

CHristan Rock is an oxymoron. Most musical styles come from a certain feeling or era, such as rap or punk or rock. I for one feel that christian rap or punk or rock, is a tool for christians to bring non christians into the fold under the guise of common music. I am sure you could find scriptures that both prove that deny that. the bible is full of contradictions.

singing praises to the Lord comes from the HEART...it does not matter to God how bad a voice , music , whatever as long as it is to HIM and from your heart...David sang and danced to the Lord...many of them did...David did this after a victory...
the early churches just sang making MELODY in their hearts, no instruments in gatherings.....or temples for that matter..

"Rock" is only a type of music. It's not just the lyrics that make up rock, it's the sounds that come from the instruments. There can most definitely be Christian Rock music.
As for scriptures, I honestly don't think there are any. Why would anyone be against music that is for your god (besides people who don't follow the same faith)?

It would be impossible to give Scripture for or against Christian rock music, since it hadn't been invented at the time Scripture was written. However, there are many Scriptures regarding music and singing praises.

BTW, one Christian rock band I like is POD.

Yes, Now it got "titled" that with Petra and especially Stryper breaking through main stream. They had to have a "title" that showed that they were different, just like during the 80's when we had Glam,Hard, Sleaze, Heavy, Speed and Death. EVeryone got a label.

There are some good "Christian" rock bands out there. I do think since it's become popular that it's becoming like the 80's, when everyone got signed a deal, and alot of them all sounded alike. There are a few that stand out, Stryper ( Which is a "80's band" but has made an incredible come back lately, and their new c.d. Murder w/ Pride) is great. Pillar, Skillet, Casting Crowns, Disciple, RED etc. to name a few that do stand out a bit and are good at what they do. Now, who they really are, that's between them and God.

There are no scriptures for or against rock music. Rock music did not exist thousands of years ago. Jesus himself went to parties and drank wine. Don't worry about it- rock out and be happy if that's what you want.

welll...my theory is this. People of a certain religion, christian for example, can make rock music, and if that music honors their god or speaks about their personal experiences with religion then I guess it would be considered christian rock technically BUT, just because someone is christian and writes rock music it doesn't necessarily mean they are a christian rock band...in my opinion Rock music is Rock music and if it happens to be about god or whatever it is still rock music but Christian Rock music is music made solely to be pandered to christians and appeal to an audience that is trying to convert younger people and stay hip and up to date with the times. There is a difference in my opinion. Bands like King's X are comprised of all christian members and many of their songs deal with their personal experiences with religion and faith, but they themselves do not consider themselves a christian or religious band...I'm atheist and I dig them, and don't feel like anything they say is trying to convert or preach.

But there are bands that push a message, an agenda and happen to wrap it up in a rock package and use it to satisfy young christians who like rock but can't listen to it because it is "EVIL".

Now I won't even subscribe to the jargon people go on about like it doesn't matter what the lyrics are about, the beat of the music is evil and all rock music is evil no matter what the lyrics....it's music people, if a song can make someone lose their faith or convert to satanism, well then I guess your religion isn't so strong after all....and to be honest much of the blues, which Rock n Roll is mostly derived from was influenced by gospel and hymnal music!

"Ten Commandments is to be a mirror to us. To show us that we are sinners condemned to die and go to the lake of fire forever because no sin can enter heaven, so please answer me, what hope is there for you and I?"
    good thing I am atheist...

You see, God is a holy God. He cannot and will not tolerate sin. Sin must be punished or He would not be a holy, just, or good God.
true.. then why not obey his word about sinners and stone them? or kill them? or mutliate their gentetles like the bible commands?
