  • This is not something you should have described to you over the internet as a guide. This is something you should actually have shown to you, either by someone with a lot of experience with parrots or by a vet qualified to handle birds. If you accidentally clip a blood feather, your parrot can bleed severely; larger birds may survive although they would be ill for a time, but something as small as a budgie can actually bleed to death.
  • I would not attempt clipping my parrot's wings myself even if i was shown by a vet how to do it. It can be very tricky and even vets get it wrong. I took my parrot to a normal vet to get his wings clipped he did it wrong and actually damaged me birds wing, noe i always take him to a vet who specialised in exotic birds and have had no problems.
  • I am unable to show you, but I can give it to you in detailed answer.
  • I'll show you here (diagram included) - http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww19eii.htm
  • Here are two videos. The first is for a parrot. The second is for cockatiel. The second one is better but both are useful.
  • DON'T use a chainsaw!
  • Take it to a vet. Let a professional do it.
  • aren't you changing a metaphorical question into a literal question? i don't think anyone's wings should ever be clipped. have you seen dogma? ben affleck's and matt damon's wings got clipped. that was not pretty! so please don't clip wings. that's what she said. wingman - top gun. steve carrell - the office.
  • An avian veterinarian should do this for you. If you try to do it yourself, your bird may move suddenly causing you to clip the wrong area, or worse. If you clip too much, the bird will not be able to coast to the floor if they fall, and they can break their breastbone. Because birds evolved for flight, their bones are hollow and can break easily. Please don't clip your birds wings at home! If something goes wrong, how far away do you live from an animal emergency clinic, that has the equipment to deal with birds?
  • Just watch the amazingly detailed videos that Galeanda posted! :) You'll be on your way watching those. Or go to someone who already knows how to handle birds for instruction. Some people are scared to clip their own birds' wings. I've had many house calls from friends on the subject. :)
