How can israel call itself a democracy?

It justifies it by comparing itself to America, which is doing exactly the same things in Iraq.

by implementing separation of judicial, legislative and executive branches. preserving rule of law, regular elections and upkeeping human rights. yes Israel is not flawless in any of these efforts but I don't know a democracy that is perfect.

it has it's problems, but it is still more democratic than many. It is behind europe but then, 100 years ago the UK was demcratic but would not qualify as a democracy/western state these days, if it had not changed.
