Is there a difference between "cat fleas" and "dog fleas"?

    Yes they belong to two different species. There is however little difference. Cat fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) are the predominate flea in North America and dog fleas (Ctenocephalides canis) are predominate in Europe. Although the two types of fleas are different species, they look very similar, in fact they can only bedifferentiated under a microscope. The cat flea is the main flea found on dogs and cats in the United States. Probably at least 95 percent of the fleas found on cats and dogs belong to this species

    dog fleas have a distinctive 'bark', while cat fleas can often be heard 'purring' just after a good feeding.
