Because the idea of the British Commonwealth is outdated and all previous colonies should be utterly and absolutely independent.

They shouldn't because the citizens are perfectly happy with the system of government that exists right now.If it is isn't broken why fix it.

Man, forget that. What has the Queen ever done to you? There's nothing glaringly wrong with the current set up, so I say leave it be.

But why not? If Canadians want their country to be a Republic then great for them, this Commonwealth thing is sort of old fashioned.

I say we should become a republic! The British crown has no place in modern Canada. Why should a Queen of a foriegn nation be head of state of Canada? The answer is she shouldnt! In fact only 5% of Canadians refer to the Queen as head of state. It would also help in the Quebec seperatist issue because if we no longer have ties to the crown Quebec would be significally pleased I believe and we could then have complete national unity! I say yes to a Canadian Republic!

I like the current system. It acknowledges how we got here, but puts no restraints on us.

Canada is completely independent de facto. The Queen has no power in Britain and she has no power in Canada. She is a symbol, and to Canadians she is a symbol of the great partnership between Britain and Canada, without which Canada could not have become the wonderful country that is is today.
