i think that saying you are an atheist carries a certain weight with it that people scoff at already, w/o having to call you a mean name.

I don't know actually - it seems like 'atheist' is the negative term though... as I just stated in another answer, someone has called me an 'atheist' and meant it as an insult.

I don't know, lets try and think this out: I guess calling them a "God Lover" would be kinda insulting, I don't know about durgatory, though. "Godless" is kinda slag, but I've never really heard it used other than in my own silly circle.

i don't know why there isn't one but YET implies there will be someday... hopefully we wont find one. i dont think we need any more derogatory terms to add to the bunch.

This is a good question, because how many different slang or derogatory names have we seen for religions or Religious people. But I haven't heard any for being athiest. I personally don't even know what I believe in anymore, so What am I? I am sure there is a name or slang word or even derogatory name for religious confused "people like me" agnostic? maybe? I don't know enough about that either! I Was never quite so confused about religion untill all the confusion on AB with it. I honestly believe it could be because MOST but not all athiest on AB is down rate happy.

Usually, some people that consider themselves to be religious just bash other religions that aren't their own. Since atheism is not a religion per say, they haven't got the time.

Wait a minute. On Sanford and Son, Aunt Esther used to call Fred "a fish eyed fool" and a "heathen". So possibly "heathen" is the worst insult available to date.
