  • Although antidepressants are regularly prescribed for Borderline, that is not what this question is asking...it asks what drugs have been SPECIFICALLY created to treat Borderline. So far, none.
  • they do use lithium to treat bpd. i have it and that's what i take. though it wasn't formulated for bpd it works really well for it. they also perscribe an anti-depressant of some sort.
  • Every case of BPD is so different. There has been no drug linked specifically to BPD. They use anti depressants for depressive symptoms, anti psycotics for mood regulation and psycotic symptoms. And some people take nothing. The point Im making is each case has individual treatment plan according to neeeds.
  • It depends what kind of symptoms you're displaying. Most drugs are given to minimize the symptoms moreso than the disorder itself. If you're displaying extreme mood swings, they might put you on mood stabilizers like Lithium. If you're showing major depressive episodes, they may put you on anti-depressants like Prozac. SSRI's are common in BPD treatment for most symptoms. But BPD's are somewhat placebo to medication; from what I've read. And this can be why they're having a hard time finding the correct medication for BPD treatment. For the meantime, they'll continue to treat the major symptoms until they find the right medication that will counteract this placebo.
