    I think that you mean the Russian Revolution. Orwell was a Socialist and he fought in the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s on the side of the socialists and anarchists. However, he became disillusioned by the experience of the USSR because he came to the conclusion that one type of elitism had been replaced by another type of elitism, instead of the egalitarianism that his idealism had led him to expect. Animal Farm was based on this observation - basically, that attempts at creating a state where everybody was equal was an impossible dream because of the greed and lust for power of certain individuals.
