In the divorce settlement, my ex got our business, and I got the house. He also was ordered to pay alimony. He sold the business to get out of paying alimony, saying he cannot afford to pay because he doesn't make enough. Can he do that? Sell to prove?

what did he do to the money from selling the business? he has to pay your alimony. try to prove how much money he got and get a judgment against him. once you get a judgement in your behalf, you could get a lien and have his future pay and tax refunds garnished as well as freeze his bank accounts to get your money.

He may be telling the truth, if the business was failing and he sold it for a song. But I doubt it.

Absolutely not! Rather than asking answerbag, get your ass into court to file for (re) discovery. Chances are you may be entitled to half of the cash because it is cash.
