My headlights glow brighter when the gas pedal is pushed and dim when the gas pedal is depressed. Why?

At higher engine RPMs, the alternator puts out more voltage than at idle. The MAXIMUM voltage is determined by the voltage regulator, but if the alternator is turning slow enough to go below that designated voltage, the lights will dim as the voltage drops.
