Some medications do indeed increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight or other UV light. While taking them you can sunburn or experience other reactions very easily.

    Here's an article about it:

Well, I'm no doctor, but I remember back in highschool, my sister was taking one of these type medications and layed out, and fell asleep in the sun. Obviously, falling asleep while sunbathing is never a good idea, but she got a sunburn accompanied by these nasty dark splotches around her neck, sun poisoning, I guess. I wouldn't worry about some unintentional exposure, I'd just stay away from tanning beds.

Drugs should not be kept in sunlight because the sunlight will damage them. In order to reduce the effects of light on drugs, prescriptions will usually come in dark containers. That way, a patient can better protect his or her medications.

This is probably the reason why you're told not to take them outside, although it would be perfectly fine if you took a drug outside, as long as you didn't keep it outside. You should minimize any drug's time out in the sun.

Nothing would happen to you as a person, but like I said, something would happen to the drug.
