  • NO because I think the concept of a REFORMED sex offender is a total oxymoron. I've been involved in way too many counseling sessions with Victims of such people to be able to believe that they can ever truly reform. I'm aware that I am completely bias against Sex Offenders and Child Abusers to a point of what I would consider fairly irrational thought. While I NORMALLY am a very non-violent person, I'm pretty sure the only way I would knowingly allow such an individual to be that close to me, would probably be if I had a loaded gun and was prepared to use it. Sorry, I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings here, but right or wrong thinking...it's how I feel about this matter...especially if children were the focus...to me it's the ultimate crime.
  • yes. just becasue someone made a wrong choice doesnt mean they dont deserve a second chance.
  • Most people have at one time either stolen something (no matter how small) or tried some kind of drug even if it was just pot. Does this make them thieves or drug addicts? We the public, has been fed so much disinformation on sex "offenders" that now we all equate them with pedophile child killers. Look at the statistics yourself (US Department of Justice) and you will find that less than 5% ever re-offend. That is only passed by murderers. Most incidents are consensual between 15-17 year olds and older men, some by just a few years. In many states, these same 15-17 year olds can be convicted as adults if they commit an adult crime. So why are they "children" when it comes to sex? We are a sexually immature society whose roots go back to Puritanism. But this same society pushes sex in your face everywhere you go. It sells everything from Beer to Shampoo. Hollywood glorifies teen sex with such movies and shows as “Lolita”, “Wild Things”, American Beauty, and Dawson’s Creek, and even Disney has "Gay Day". Since when did family entertainment become associated with anything sexual at all? Yet we ostracize anyone who 'gets caught' doing it in any way. It's like forcing someone to take heroin then calling them scum when they become addicted. (*Please research the chemical mechanics of sex to see why I draw this example). It is the true pedophile that can not be "reformed". They can not relate to people their own age and see children as sex objects. Sadly, almost all were victims themselves. This does not excuse their actions in any way. The REAL crime here is that you are being terrified into looking under every rock for sex offenders in your neighborhood when the fact is that over 85% of all offences happen within the family. Are they telling you how to spot the signs of that? No! Why? Because fear and terror get politicians elected. They give you an enemy, and then say that only they can protect you from it. The truth is; most sex offenders made a bad error in judgment, but are otherwise probably decent people. Just as you are not a drug addict or thief because of ONE incident than neither are most sex offenders dangerous child killing pedophiles. They are victims too, victims of greedy politicians, sensationalist media, and an uneducated public. Does it make any sense to ruin someones life for an error in judgment? Look at how many offenders are under 25 years old. They are just getting started and we hit them with a big scarlet letter they must wear for life! This is nothing more than a witch hunt and shows me that we have not come very far as a nation from our Puritan, witch burning roots.
  • I am the exwife of a sex offender who would sneak into my 10 yr old daughters room to fondle her. After spending 4 yrs in jail he found an 18 yr old girlfriend (barely keeping it legal) then got caught screwing a underage girl---back to prison he went. Now he is out again and looks ike he died his hair from grey back to blond, probably so he can try to attract a 15 yr old. He is sick and will never be right in the head. In my opinion none of them really ever get cured. However I feel there is a huge differance between my ex and a young 20 yr old who gets arrested for having sex with his 17yr old girlfriend just because her parents are pissed. Their daughter isnt pure and wish to punish the boy. I believe true sex offenders cannot be reformed they just know how to fake all the right answers.

  • There is a film called The Woodsman ( 2004 ) about that subject starring Kevin Bacon, I thought it was a moving film and is the only thing I have seen that would make me feel any compassion for reformed pedophiles but I would be hard pressed to trust a pedophile around my daughter. Like anyone maybe some can change, but how could you know for sure and would it be worth taking the risk.
