In America, if you put outgoing mail in your mailbox, the Postal Service picks it up. Is this common in other countries?

not in new zealand no. we have to drop all our mail into the post boxes. and thats a bloody pain coz they dont have to many of them

Here in Canada (my area anyway), you have to find one of these big red postal boxes and put it in. They are sometimes pretty hard to come by! Tried to submit a .jpg picture, but it keeps saying it is a .gif... Same in England. We have to take our post to the post office or put it in a big red letter box :)

We should be so lucky! if our bins arn't even a precise 2ft away from edge of pathway or curb they don't take it!
