  • Sounds like a bruised or cracked rib.
  • Yes,I WOULD SAY THAT IT IS BEGINNING TO HURT UR BODY(may b ur lungs cant take it anymore). All said and done, sooner r later this is bound to happen..so quit right now.
  • If you smoke, it's likely to be your lungs. However, the fact you smoke could be a coincidence. It could be your liver or pancreas, or as another user mentions, a problem with one of your ribs.
  • I have the same problem, although I smoke only about a half a pack of day and have for only maybe a half a year. I just got through with a type of flu, and I coughed a lot. Off and on in the last month, my right side under my ribs has hurt, but in the past couple days it came back worse than ever and hasn't gone away. It hurts when I walk, laugh, cough, sit up straight, or move my position at all.
  • I'm having the same exact problem in the same exact area. I smoke, too, and had a bad cold over a month ago, however, the phlegm is still getting caught up in my throat, especially when I'm trying to sleep at night. I think I must have pulled something from coughing too hard on one of these days. It even hurts to wear an underwire bra. This pain seemed to be going away a couple of days ago, then came back with less intensity, but overall I've had it for just over a week now...
  • Costochondritis Signs and symptoms Costochondritis causes pain and tenderness in the locations where your ribs attach to your breastbone (costosternal joints). Often the pain is sharp, though it can also feel like a dull, gnawing pain. Pain associated with costochondritis occurs most often on the left side of your breastbone, though it can occur on either side of your chest. Other costochondritis symptoms may include: * Pain when taking deep breaths * Pain when coughing * Difficulty breathing Costochondritis is the most common cause of chest pain originating in the chest wall. It occurs most often in women and people over age 40. However, costochondritis can affect anyone, including infants and children.
  • i have the same problem but it doent happen every day. but when it does happen it hurt something ferice and for awhile.
  • I have the same thing, but on the left side. I've had it a few years and it's often in phases. It doesn't happen as often as it can do. I'm only 18 though and I've never smoked, only passively. I'm glad I read the Top answer, because I was getting concerned about it.
  • You could have pulled or torn one of the tendons in your rib cage.
