Help answer this question below.

Daughter found a 1864 half dime on the side it says half dime at bottom it says copy . any info helpful.

    If it says "COPY" anywhere on the coin in all caps it is fake.

    A coin dealer has this to say:
    "We at Fauntle Numismatic we take pride in ensuring that our replicas are as close as possible to the original coins in size, appearance and appeal and will fit perfectly next to the other coins in your collection. All my coins are die struck on planchets of correct size and thickness (within reasonable tolerances) to resemble their famous counterparts perfectly. In accordance with the Hobby Protection Act each coin is permanently incused with the word COPY on either the front or the back of the coin (see picture). They are not and never were US currency."

    You can find these items on ebay and they appear to be priced around $14.00 plus postage.
