  • No. Melanin should be irrelevant in how one person views another.
  • No, not in the slightest.
  • nope - it's 'content of their character' that i look at
  • No. I will never beleive in any kind of stereotypes. I beleive that everybody is to be respected as a human beign and, most importantly, as a unique individual... I don't care about the colour of skin, the religion, the etnic group, nation, language, sex, sex orientation, etc.
  • Nope. I hate everyone equally.
  • No, I'm sane thank you.
  • absolutely not.
  • No. How can I be, if I know race is a scientific fallacy? Is anyone going to answer 'yes' to this?
  • Of course I am, I hate fast people. Why would I want to race anyone when I know I have no chance of coming in first. I forget his name but I just borrowed that from a Black Jamaican comedian in his response to this question so that I Don't come off as a joke thief. Racially no, I am prejudiced against bigoted people though.
  • "Everyone's a little bit racist" -Avenue Q
  • No. Absolutely ALL of my predjudices are aimed strictly at individuals who have gone out of their way to commit acts that directly earn my personal scorn. What their race is does not lessen or worsen my hatred of them.
  • No, but it has been my experience that most racists answer the question the exact same way that I just did.
  • I am not a racist, I just like white people more than black people...
  • I have no idea. Its difficult for me to tell you that. May be some people think I am. Personally, I don't think so.
  • Nope. I am also not a bigot, which encompasses the rest of the spectrum that "racist" leaves out, such as hating for sexual oriention, religion, etc.
  • If you'll excuse the pun, racism isn't quite as black and white as some of the responses in this thread seem to portray. While I've known a lot of people who were very egalitarian, they were still ultimately human. Part of being human is seeing yourself as normative, if only subconsciously. Very few of us actively feel inferior to other races, but does that mean we always believe that others are exactly equal to us, all of the time? When conflict occurs between individuals, differences of opinion can quickly escalate into an active process of differentiation at numerous levels. It's a defense mechanism that helps us to justify our own perspective. "I'm right and you're wrong because..." People often perceive an invalidation of their beliefs as an invalidation of themselves. Threat invokes an emotional, not a rational response, and more often than not it is the most salient differences that leap to our minds -- race, ethnicity, religion, culture, gender, etc. If, in the heat of anger or frustration, you've never entertained a stray thought of: "He/she is doing/thinking this because she/he is __________" I applaud you. But I also question if you're being entirely honest. I think that egalitarianism is an active process, and that racism is a continuum of behaviour. Most enlightened individuals do a pretty good job at thinking and acting in a way that affirms the political, economic, social, and civil equality of all people. Racist people are just those whose prejudices are so strong that they can't be retained internally, and become obviously visible in observable behaviour. But I think we're all guilty of thinking irrationally about ourselves and others from time to time, particularly during stress... but the best of us recognize that process as it is happening, and stop it dead.
  • No. Racism is horrible.
  • Nope...I own 4 color TVs.....;)
  • Only slightly...I mean, you can't help being a little bit racist if the only people you know are racist too.
  • No i don't see i reason why i should
  • Not at all
  • I would say no. I hope not because I believe that all people are made equally and not to be too religious, but God loves everyone and He died for all so I don't think that anyone is more important than anyone else. I try not to look down at others, but sometimes when I notice that a certain group of people act a certain way, I try to be compassionate and deal with them.
  • no, i hate racists
  • No! I would be the last person to be branded a racist.
  • Racism is what I hate most! The other thing is reservation.
  • Oh, yes! Those damned negroes, always stealing the clothes off my washing line! Some days I just wish they'd up and disappear.
  • No, that is just being mean.
  • I can assure you I am not nor will I ever be.
  • No, definately not
  • I know I'm not.
  • I'd like to think not, though I'm aware I make generalizations, particularly about white people (I'm white). My real friends have no color to me. They're just... people I can deal with. People ask me to describe them, and their ethnicity is usually the one thing I forget about. Honestly, some people are like, "You didn't tell me they were white!" (People are fairly aware of my disdain of stereotypical whites.) I grew up in a very diverse childhood, and am completely used to being the token white kid. And whenever I encountered other white kids, they just always seemed really stuck up to me. And, for the most part, white people still seem really stuck up to me. I won't deny that others from other ethnicities can be stuck up, but that's because we're all human, which is what a lot people seem to forget when they try to categorize others. There's an exception to every rule, and everyone has their flaws. But everyone can be great, too, if you give them a chance. I just tend to be anti-social.
  • Of course not. I don't have time to be an ass.
  • im not sure but i will admit to being weary of certain people because of the colour of their skin due to recent events around the world. and when i fly i do quickly scan the fellow passsengers. does that make me racist?
  • mildly. i'll feel more nervous walking through a gang of black guys than i would a group of japanese guys, which indicates prejudice really. i do hate those damn eskimoes though...where do they get off?
  • I am not racist but I have some bigotries. My big one is I am bigoted against people who are rasist, bigoted towards sexual orientation, bigoted towards religious orientation, and more. I am bigoted against bigots and racists. I am bigoted against gang members due to having been jumped by some and living amongst them. I am bigoted against them but am not unthinking. My prejudice against them says "they are dangerous". I have met some who have been good people. As I said, I am not unthinking: I give everyone a chance (except for bigots). If they (gang members) show me that they are not bad, I change my estimation of them. However, I do not trust gang members so I am always careful. I am bigoted against drug dealers. I am certain I can think of more.
  • Fortunately i'm not and neither are the people who raised me.
  • I am an equal opportunity offender. I like jokes directed at any race, especially white folks because they are funny. When it comes to being suspicious of folks, I am color blind, I am afraid of everyone.
  • Nope, not even an iota.
  • No, but it is my experience that most racists say the same thing I just did.
  • Never was. Never will be! There's no sense to it, and it's DUMB to be that way!
  • Nope Never was, never will be, I am against racism.
  • Yes. Everyone is. I won't go out committing hate crimes... But honestly everyone has told a Polish, Black or Jew joke at one point in their lives. And that's racist... making judgments based on race.
  • I try not to be, but tonight was my worst nightmare when some faggot thugs had a gun pointed at me, demanding what they got. I won't say what race they were.
  • It's not the colour of your skin or where your from that counts. It's about your integrity as a person, your honnesty, your compassion for others and your strength of character that matters.
  • I must say that I have been guilty of generalizing, but I in no way would say that I am racist. I don't think my race in any way is better than someone elses. =]
  • I'm not racist I believe everyone should own a colour tv.
  • I know that I'm not.
  • no and i wish the world wasn't either
  • I am not racist in the least. I can't stand stupidity in any color;~}
  • I think everyone is racist to some degree. I may get DR but thats just my opinion.
  • I don't think so.
  • No! I'm capable to like or dislike any person regardless of race, sex, religious believes or sexual orientation.
  • Possibly a slight bit, due to subtle things but I don't think you really get much less racist than I am.
  • I am not racist but I am prejudiced. I am not prejudiced towards anyone dependent upon their ethnicity (often mislabeled as "race"), sexual orientation, religious choice, or any other such things. I am prejudiced based on certain behaviours. For example I am prejudiced against gang members. I have a pre-judgement that I am likely to be attacked by gang members because I have been in the past. I also pre-judge that, if I become friends with a gang member, my life expectancy would be shortened because gang members seem to attract bullets. Bullets do not care who they take out and rival gangs like to do lovelies like drive-by shootings. I do not care what color of skin the gang member happens to be wearing. I am prejudiced against neo-Nazi's and KKK members unilaterally. I am also prejudiced against people who are bigoted against people based on such things as ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious preference or the like. If a bigoted person stops being a bigot, they fall out of the realm of that group and, as such, I stop being prejudiced against them. If a gang member gets out of a gang I am going to support that person and have had friends who are ex-gang members.
  • There is a particular race of mosquitoes i am not very fond of
  • We all are to some degree, and the one way to find out is to put yourself in a neighborhood anywhere on the planet other than your own, then think about what your thinking. Perhaps it won't be any racist thoughts but prejudice certainly will play a part which eventually leads to racism. In short this is a primal instinct for security and survival that we humans have yet to shred completely. This is just my thoughts and opinion.
  • I am not racist, although have other prejudices (it's hard to overcome what you've been taught). Race isn't one of them. It's largely thanks to my father being severely racist.
  • No, I am not a racist. I think it's perfectly grand that we have variety--this makes life much more interesting!
  • yea a little but I've been to the pen. I don't think anyone can come out of the pen and not be a little racist
  • Absolutely not I have equal contempt for every race including my own.
  • I never was, I am not now and nor will i ever be racist. We are each on this earth through no fault of own and the gift of life, regardless of the color of that life, is something we each should praise .. not fight against. I'm white and I'm a great person. He is not white and he too .. is a great person.
  • My family is the U.N.....we pick on each other because of differences and rejoice in them also.....I feel I am not racist.....I believe in one world, one people....I will say I am prejudice against racist people....that is my downfall...
  • i was just about to post this question as i saw a user with the nickname: jungle bunny!!?? i really hope this person does not realize what that term is slang for and decides to change it when they find out what it does imply!!
  • I am not but I do hate bad characters and bad habits which intentionally hurt innocent, just to gain their needs and you should know, what color people are they.
  • No, I am not racist.
  • no , is this question .?
  • No I am not racist. That's ignorance!
  • To be a racist means to render a negative moral judgement against a person based on nothing more than their skin color. Therefore, I am not. Having said that, in my time, being a racist has come to mean that one politically disagrees with someone who has a different skin color, assuming the one who disagrees is white. That of course is total bullshit. But because that standard exists, everytime I disagree with someone who is not white, a predictable number of people will call me a racist. Screw them, but what can you do?
  • No, I am not a racist. We are all created in the image of God and therefore equal before Him. I want to view all peoples from God's perspective.
  • In short, yes. I don't know anyone who isn't racist. My definition is that a racist believes--consciously or subconsciously--that people can be categorized by race and that such categorization means something. In other words, you're a racist if you "see" race. We know that it's POSSIBLE to NOT see race b/c A) some children don't see it (I didn't until I was well into elementary school--I knew people looked different, but, hell, everyone looks different from everyone else, so that wasn't surprising) and B) race is defined differently at different times and places (for example, some of you probably remember when White was rarely thought of as a single race and even if it was, Italians sure as heck weren't white. Or go to Brazil and ask someone how many races there are--you'll get a brand new education, I promise). But I've been fooled just like everyone else. I don't like it, but I'm a racist--I notice people's race and, even though I realize race is socially constructed, part of me accepts the stereotypes. In my defense, there's good reason for stereotyping--in fact, stereotypes probably have much more of a biological basis than race; our minds categorize and generalize in order to keep us safe. Without it, we'd just wonder why those gentlemen are wearing ski masks into the bank--what an odd choice of headwear! Even infants quickly learn to prefer people who look like their parents. Of course. Can't blame 'em, right? Unfortunately, once this stuff is ingrained, you can't talk yourself out of it. But you can be patient with yourself and with others and try to promote understanding and goodwill, no matter our quirks of consciousness, biology, and society.
