I'm not sure about age limits and whatnot, but in Georgia it IS against the law.
-
its againist the law here at any age. I left my brother in my car to run in for my last paycheck, only 5 minutes he was sleeping and i got ticketed.
-
yes it is against the law..in my state the minimum age to leave a child in a car even to run in and prepay your gas is 16

How long does it take a carjacker to steal your car, with your 9 year old child inside? Hope this answers your question.

I think you have to use common sense. If you can't ever do it then what happens when you have a child in the car and you buy petrol (gas)? How do you go to pay for it? If you do run into the shop for the briefest of moments, make sure you leave the car locked with the alarm on and park where you can see it from inside.

can anyone who is saying this IS against the law point us to a link that proves it?...I think not...everywhere I looked in CO law, there is nothing specific

It's not against the law, but it is against moral value. How would you feel if when you get back, your car and son/daughter are gone. Not too good, right. Even when I pay to pump gas, I bring my 5 year old with me.

Only if it results in injury or possible injury to the child, in which case it would be considered child endangerment, reckless endangerment, or perhaps negligence. Example: You leave your kid in the car, with the keys in the ignition and the child puts the car into gear and causes a collision. If you leave your child in the car, make sure the car is locked and the keys are NOT in the car. It's also not a good idea to leave a child in a locked car on a hot day, or an extremely cold day as either of these scenarios can result in the death of the child.

I live in North Carolina. I went into the gas station last night to pay for gas, my husband is working out of town and had our debt card. I had no choice the tank was empty and my son (14 months) and I both needed something to drink. I went in and got the drinks and had to write a check it probably took 10 minutes which was a lot longer than I intended but I could see my son the entire time and he was smiling and playing in his car seat. The car was locked. When I came out I told him how sorry I was, his little cheeks were red but he wasn't sweating. I felt terrible that it had taken so long. I reached for his cup to give him some water and a man approached my car. He flashed a badge of some kind and said he was with the sheriff department and told me he had enough time to pump $50.00 worth of gas(that don't take long when gas is $1.80 a gallon, I pump $30.00 in about 3 minutes)plus he was already pumping when I pulled up! Anyway he told me he could call Social Services right now and they would take my son from me for leaving him him the hot car for so long, it was hot outside but it was also 8:30pm, no sunlight. He proceeded to tell me in his own words that he could have my child taken from me and "I don't know if you love your child or not, but I can see how hot he is and I want you to know I can have Social Services come to your house and take him away from you." I couldn't even speak, I could believe it! I felt terrible about leaving him so long even before this guy can over to tell me how bad a parent he thought I was! I wish I had wrote down his name so I could complain about him. Long story but point is that a lot of law enforcement officers like to make honest caring people feel insuffiencent. There badge gives them a Napoleon complex! This guy had his wife in the car with his kids while he pumped and paid, well some of us don't have that luxury. How could I have brought him in and wrote a check and carried two 12oz drinks? I stayed up all night thinking about it and still feel terrible! What a jerk! Thanks for reading!

Here are a couple of websites for you: http://www.kidsincars.org/m_nav/legislation.html http://www.kidsandcars.org/legislation.html You can actually look up the actual law for each state on the second website. According to what I have found there are no laws for the state of Colorado against leaving children unattended. On a personal note, it is amazing how mean people are when it comes to parenting. If someone really cares about the safety of another persons child, it would do better to inform that parent about the hazards of such an issue as leaving a child unattended, than to insult them.
