I take a couple days of "ME" time. Go to a coffee shop or bookstore on the other side of town where I don't know anyone and read. Tell the family I am going out of town for a day or two and turn the cell phone off- then spend a quiet weekend by myself. I try to do things that will take my mind of emotional issues like working in the garden or going somewhere for a night or two. A $50 hotel room and some window shopping one weekend can sometimes let you catch your breath and come back with renewed vigor.

I'll usually lock myself in a room and write music. Sometimes not the best solution as the writing can be an emotionally exhaustive process too, but there are times when playing and being creative help me to adjust. If all else fails...I drink. (Thankfully, plan A works more often than not.)
