We had a male cat that started straying I don't know if that is the same but we had to replace the carpet and wash the underneath florring with bleach before laying the new. Pet pee is a bad thing because it is now in your pad and the floor.

Twice I've had a cat that wouldn't or couldn't use a litterbox and instead used the carpet. Twice I've had to replace the carpet. Honestly, I haven't found anything that removes the odor of cat urine. Shampooing the carpet seems to make it worse. If you do find something, let us know. For me, it was laminate flooring.

I found that the "oxy clean" for pets works really well, followed by DOUSING the area in Febreeze... the orange top is nice, that worked for me but again, it all depends on the thickness of the carpet, humidity in the air and of course.... how many pheramones are in the urine ...

The best way I've found to get rid of cat pee stains on carpets, mattresses, etc. is to 1) blot up as much of it as possible, 2)liberally pour distilled white vinegar over area (can use a fan to help dry) then 3)put some baking soda over it to get rid of vinegar smell. The vinegar prevents bacteria from setting in too!

I've heard people swear by cleaning products from the pet store that state to have ENZYMES (or enzymatic action) like Nature's Miracle or Urine Gone. Personally, I haven't found anything that works very fast. It can take a long time and lots of treatments for the smell to weaken. The other thing to watch for is that the cat might continue to using the same soiled carpet spots as a toilet. That habit will need to be broken otherwise it will never be clean.
