  • This sort of thing is ALOT more common than most people think. What happens is a mini tornado picks up fish while over the sea and then deposits them over land.
  • A heat wave dehydrated the water and carried the fish eggs into the clouds. They rehydrated and it rained fish. Courtesy of "Next"
  • The dehydration story is the right one. There was also a video I seen where a gathering of thousands saw millions of rose pedals falling from the sky.It was a clear day and no plane in sight to drop them. Also there is a small town in the desert of California where it rained rocks.

  • We It's has been said that it happened. I don't discard the fact that the theory of a tornado could elevate an object of a certain given size and weight from one location and move it to another, that is pretty much possible and common to see. However the fact that some claim as in the movie "Next, staring Nicolas Cage", the odds of fish eggs hatching in a cloud is a rather puzzling one, because of these following observations or factors involved 1 - Temperature factor is crucial for the survival of fish and fish eggs, as of most animals. Some animals can only live withing a certain range of temperature, (one degree more or less and they die). However there are some animals that are capable of acclimatizing their body temperature to that of the environment they are surrounded by, however this process takes some time (Not for ever but some hours at most) and the temperature change has to be gradual not sudden. To make this short, the temperature of the water on a lake or ocean is much higher that that of a cloud or higher atmosphere (where it's lower), and with the help of a tornado, the change of temperature might me to quick. However again, the temperature in a Nordic country like Denmark (where it is said that this event took place) is rather cold (lower) also. 2 - A tornado is known to be able to lift a lot of objects, so if a school of fish was caught, it is possible that the were lifted never the less, other debree might have been caught also, and could easily hit and kill some of the fishes in the process (Remember the comments said that the fishes were ALIVE). However, it is also said that it is a watersprout, and it occurred in a lake in Denmark. Now the chance of debree in a lake floating is not impossible but the amount to kill I guess (so many fish) would be a very strange and highly improbable event to occur. DON'T YOU THINK? (Picture a human instead of fish, trapped in a tornado with debris flying around, Scary isn't it), well the odds of a human getting away alive is slim or none. Then again, the mass (size and weight) of the object is very important to avoid debris. I will conclude with this last comment, because there is a lot of pros and cons I can say about this, but then it will no longer be a comment, it would be an article. 3 - Even tho once more that a tornado is cable of lifting object of great mass (size and weigh), fr these objects to stay (AFLOAT) in a cloud and till it rained, well I will assume that they need to bee very small. Cloud do contain object that are non liquid that falls in any precipitation,, but the size and weight is very important. If you thing that in the dessert when it rained the water you drink is 100% pure, well think again, there is a lot of fine dust particles trap it the clouds, and to be more specific, in a drop of water. But at least it is not liquid or gas, it's SOLID MASS. ONE GOOD ADVISE TO ALL, BECAUSE I ALSO DO AND LIVE BY THIS: DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR OR SEE ON THE MEDIA AND FROM PEOPLE, BECAUSE MANY OF IT IS LIE, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, DON'T DISCARD THE FACT THAT THERE IS A LOT OF THINGS OUT THERE THAT SCIENCE CANNOT EXPLAIN, YOU SHOULD KEEP YOU MIND OPEN FOR NEW KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES AS THEY MAE LIVING MO INTERESTING. BUT AT THE SAME TIME IN THE CASE OF AN UNEXPLAINED EVENT LOOK AT ALL THE ODDS AND ASSES EACH AND EVERY POSSIBLE OUT COME BEFORE MAKING A CHOICE. "Life is uncertain, you could either live believing that there are new things to be learned, or live believing that everything has been learned already" In the end, "The choice is YOURS". It's nice to see that some people are curios about things, after all if we went curios, man kind wouldn't have be where he is today. Melvin A. 02 - 11 - 2007 I've given this same answer to a similar question in yahoo answer service. Knowledge is to be shared, but do not claim that something came from you when it really came from someones else. be honest and respect others opinions and knowledge.
  • I don't know about that particular incident in Denmark but there are other countries that have rained fish, frogs, toads, and even birds. I found some info on it after I saw "Next." Couldn't help myself. Raining animals is a relatively common meteorological phenomenon, with occurrences reported from many countries throughout history. The animals most likely to drop from the sky in a rainfall are fish and frogs, with birds coming third. Sometimes the animals survive the fall, especially fish, suggesting a small time gap between the extraction and the actual drop. Several witnesses of raining frogs describe the animals as startled, though healthy, and exhibiting relatively normal behavior shortly after the event. In some incidents, however, the animals are frozen to death or even completely enclosed in blocks of ice. These occurrences may be evidence for the transport of the victims to high altitudes, where the temperature is below zero, and they show how powerful meteorological forces can be. Most recent occurrences include the rain of frogs and toads in Serbia (2005) and London (1998), and rains of fish in India (2006) and Wales (2004). In Honduras, the Lluvia de Peces (Rain of Fishes) is a unique phenomenon that has been occurring for more than a century on a yearly basis in the country of Honduras. It occurs in the Departamento de Yoro, between the months of May and July. Witnesses of this phenomenon state that it begins with is a dark cloud in the sky followed by lightning, thunder, strong winds and heavy rain for 2 to 3 hours. Once the rain has stopped, hundreds of living fish are found on the ground. People take the fish home to cook and eat them. Although some experts have tried to explain the Rain of Fishes as a natural meteorological phenomenon, the fish are not sea water fish, but fresh water fish; they are not dead, but alive; they are not blind, they have eyes; they are not big fish, but small; and the type of fish is not found elsewhere in the area. There is no valid scientific explanation for this phenomenon. Many people believe this phenomenon occurs because of Father José Manuel Subirana, a Spanish catholic missionary and considered by many to be a Saint. He visited Honduras from 1856-1864, and upon encountering so many poor people, prayed for 3 days and 3 nights asking God for a miracle to help the poor people by providing food. The Rain of Fishes has occurred ever since.
  • They even provided the inspiration for some of the events in the 1999 Paul Anderson film Magnolia, which went to the extreme of having a diver falling from the sky. That may be going too far, assures a Met Office spokesman. Fish are the most common thing to have rained down on you - other than rain itself, of course. Rains of frogs have also been known, as have such strange items as tomatoes and even lumps of coal. The phenomenon can be explained simply: given strong enough winds, in thunderstorms for example, small whirlwinds and mini-tornadoes may form. When these travel over water any small items of debris in their path, such as fish or frogs, may be picked up and carried for up to several miles. Sooner or later, the clouds carrying them will open and drop their strange cargo - resulting in a hail of fish, frogs or whatever the winds happened to pick up. Weird rains are not limited to Britain - they have been recorded all over the world, throughout the ages. Pliny the Elder, writing in the first century AD, mentioned storms of frogs and fish. Some believe that these events may give a clue to the origin of the plague of frogs recorded in the Book of Exodus. Two US scientists have come up with an explanation of the 10 plagues of Egypt as a series of linked natural disasters - each following as a result of the other. So perhaps the residents of Knighton should continue to keep a nervous eye on the river water.
