As a martial artist/rennaissance student of close to 15 years, and running a school in my home, I've got one to ten of a lot of everything really,
Swords: Katanas, Daitos, wakizashi, Rapiers, one/two handed broadswords, chinese broadswords/straightswords, Ninja-tos, and a few more,
wood/staves: Bo, Jo, hanbo, bokken, ninja-to bokken, shinai, tanto, wakizashi,
Knives: ringed handle kunai, throwing knives(leaf blade, straight blade) guthook knives, serrated double sided knives,
Axes: thrown single/double edged, one/two handed hacking axes, two handed single/double edged,
Maces: flanged, spiked, solid ball, solid square, one and two handed,
spears: wushu single/double ended, broadhead europeans, yari(japanese,)
rope/chain and other weapons: chinese rope dart/meteor hammer, monkeyfist rope, manriki-kusari, kusari-fundo, swordbiter chains(made of hooks along the chain,)
Kusari-gama, hojojutsu rope, shuriken of many variety, shields, Shuko/ashiko-hand and feet claws, armored bracers, metsubishi/blinding powder,
And I encourage all of my students to be proficient in all and use none. I advise you do the same ;)

The best weapon is the one you can take anywhere or atleast which you can find everywhere, legal and not dangerous for your family. Being a martial artist, my weapons are my body, walls, furniture, even could be a pen. :)

Ok so I have traps everywhere in my house. Deadly ones. I have two deadly kittens;). In each room I have twenty hidden fixed blades. I sleep with a bow with arrows attached to it on the side of it, the bows on the floor by the bed. I wear two fixed bladeds while I sleep. I have a hatchet under my pillow. A dagger under the other. A katana on either side of me. A survival knife on the top of both pillows. On my door I have an air powered wall thingy that shoots out home made poision darts. My window has nails sticking up on it. I have a kurki on my bead stand. And finnaly my bed is covered and surrounded by large easy to open pocket knifes.
