If the television has a one-level audio output, you can simply connect this to a spare line-level input on your stereo system. Split the monophonic audio signal with a Y-connector and connect it to both the Left and Right input channels.

If your television does not provide a line-level output, you will need to gain access to the signal to the speaker. This may be available through a plug on the rear of the television (for an external speaker) or you may have to tap the signal at the speaker. You will need to use an audio transformer to match the speaker signal to the line-level inputs on your audio system. You should be able to purchase one at a Radio Shack or at an audio supply shop.
