Only according to Jim Bellucci in Animal House the movie did that happen according to Jim. It was WWII FYI too.

Boy have you got your history confused! ;-) The fighting in WWI never got to American shores. It was confined almost entirely to Europe, the middle east and Africa. It was the Japanese that bombed Pear Harbor forcing the US to join the fighting in WWII.
