Help answer this question below.
According to http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/patient-melatonin.html
"Melatonin is a hormone produced in the brain by the pineal gland, from the amino acid tryptophan. The synthesis and release of melatonin are stimulated by darkness and suppressed by light, suggesting the involvement of melatonin in circadian rhythm and regulation of diverse body functions. Levels of melatonin in the blood are highest prior to bedtime."
Melatonin is 5-methoxy-N-acetyltryptamine
Seratonin is an organic compound, C10H12N2O, formed from tryptophan and found in animal and human tissue, especially the brain, blood serum, and gastric mucous membranes, and active as a neurotransmitter and in vasoconstriction, stimulation of the smooth muscles, and regulation of cyclic body processes.
Low levels of this can result in depression.
WOW ! I looked up both definitions and I don't stand any of it. LOL Great question though.

What impact do you think Ecstasy has upon long term production of necessary brain hormones?
by Kevisaurus is a Carnotaurus today on June 15th, 2007
I am not a scientist, but I imagine that any drug would have an impact upon brain hormones, both temporary and long term. It is clear that depression peaks after taking drugs, so that must mean that seratonin has been affected.(at least)
