  • because laptops are portable : )
  • I don't know other than the fact that they're more compact and portable. I have a laptop, it got the horrid BLUE SCREEN virus thing. I've been waiting two years for it to be fixed..
  • Because of the task of fitting all those components into such a small package. The parts that go into a laptop are more miniaturized than normal and that typically costs money. Plus, laptop parts need to be able to take more heat than their desktop counterparts because of the lack of sufficient cooling. Also, unlike a desktop, where each component is modular and usually transferable from one desktop to another, when a new laptop model is designed, they often have to design all new parts to get everything to fit together properly. So each new model line has increased costs associated with the design and manufacture.
