I think they are dissatisfied because the grass always looks greener elsewhere. It seems to be something of a national pasttime to moan about the NHS and all things official. I think they have more fun staying in the UK and complaining than they would if they emmigrated to another country. I also believe that lots of people (the older generation) remember the past inaccurately. They refer to the 'good old days, when you could leave your door open and nobody would steal your TV' and so on. It is of course, a load of old rubbish, the 'good old days' were, in a lot of respects and compared with 2007, dreadful. Complaining for some is habitual yet rarely do these people take steps to improve their own lives. What they seem to overlook is that this country is rich and the standard of living high. It has a welfare system that most can only dream of and health care is free (in a sense). Our petrol may be expensive but nevertheless, the vast majority own a car and use them regularly. For people who cannot afford petrol, there do seem to be an awful lot of new cars about. We live in a democracy and are one of the most tolerant countries in the world. We educate our children and have low unemployment. Our streets are relatively safe. The water we drink is the cleanest on the planet (particularly in London). We have libraries and parks paid for by taxes. Unlike some places that a person could live, even without a single penny in your pocket, it is impossible to starve to death in the UK unless you want to. We have free press and a stable economy. Oh and finally, we have only one clothes peg manufacturer for the whole of the UK (just thought I'd slip that one in). I love it here (I was born here) and think it is a cool place to live and I thank my lucky stars that I do.
