  • I don't know anything about your individual case, but typically the court doesn't take people's kids away from them if they did nothing wrong. It just doesn't happen. There has to be some sort of proof of bad parenting for them to do so. And you say they are in state custody- I assume your wife, or ex wife, whoever she is, doesn't have them either. It sounds like both of you guys didn't do such a great job. My suggestion is, appeal the decision, and do any and ALL of the things they say you need to do to get your kids back. If they think those children aren't fit to be with you, they won't give them back.
  • If you care about the welfare of the children, hire a family attorney. It sounds like there's a custody battle brewing and you'll want professional representation. The fact that your children are in states custody doesn't bode well for any of you; it's a fairly extreme measure to remove a child from the home. Above all else, remember that nothing -- not your feelings for your wife, you feelings for her boyfriend, your own desires -- is more important that the emotional and physical welfare of your children and the assurance that they will have a healthy future.
