  • You most likely have what is called a "parasitic drain", which means one of the electrical circuits that is supposed to turn off when you shut off the car and take out the key is not doing so. The way this is usually diagnosed is someone (usually a mechanic/technician) puts a device called an ammeter (measures electrical current) between the negative battery post and the negative battery cable. After checking just how much current is being drained, fuses are pulled one by one until the current drain goes away. This narrows the possible problems down to the circuits powered by a single fuse. Each system in that circuit is then individually checked and/or disconnected to see which one is the culprit. A rough guess is that a shop will charge 2 hours of labor to find the cause ($150 - $300). Without knowing the exact cause, a repair cost is difficult to estimate. Good luck.
