If I may, I would like to answer this question from the perspective of a man who has been castrated.

Removing the testicles, and therefore testosterone, will not likely quell the urges of a sex offender. Sex is just as much mental as physical, and even though they have been neutered their thoughts will not change.

Due to injuries in my teens, I had to have both testicles removed at age 25. I have had great sex with my wife since my surgery, but the thought of molesting children has never crossed my mind.

I have no idea of the thought processes of a sex offender. I firmly believe it is more of a mental disorder than a hormonal process. Psychatric halp may be useful. I truly don't know the proper answer.

I have never been a pedophile. I prefer adult women.

That said, I have been castrated since 1985 due to a medical condition that could only be resolved by removing my testicles. Both my wife and my urologist supported my decision to be castrated. Wife and I had good sex for a long time after my surgery. She liked me with no balls, and I sure felt more comfortable with them gone.

Sex is just as much mental as physical. Castrating a sex offender will not make him more docile, it will just make him madder.

BTW, life with no testicles beneath my penis is much more comfortable.

To those who scream for the death penalty or physical/mental torture like a pack of animals - when an innocent man or woman is convicted, how will you live with your choice? To those who think prison terms should be a type of punishment/revenge, I hope you never need forgiveness for all the wrongs you have committed in your lifetime - your occasions of drunk driving, recreational drug use, etc. As someone who once said, "Let him who is without sin, cast the first stone".

Like everything in life, there is no black and white. I do believe that releasing paedophiles without therapy is no answer. But, then again, releasing any offenders without therapy to resolve the source of the problem, offers no protection to society either. Just because someone has done the time, does not, in my opinion, mean they should be released. Freedom should be dependent on society now being safe from re-offending.
I don't want offenders punished for the sake of an eye for an eye but I do want to feel reassured that they are unlikely to re-offend. Prison is a training ground for criminals, no less so for paedophiles. They are sick people and need to be healed. None of you screaming for blood can possibly believe in your most twisted minds that any paedophile wants to be the way they are. Just as every smoker wishes they had never picked up that first cigarette, can you imagine that a paedophile does not wich they were "normal" if they could be? Locking up with similarly sick people only reinforces their evil tendencies. You don't put people with infectious diseases in a situation where they can spread their infections, similarly psychologically sick people like these should be quarantined and treated not locked up together to help the disease spread and grow.

Neither prison, nor execution (state murder) nor castration will prevent crime. And, if you make the punishment for paedophilia as severe as that for murder, how many young victims do you think will be left alive? I would be tempted to rip the head off anyone who touches my grandaughter but I would prefer to have her abused and alive rather than abused and murdered!
