And 200 years ago everyone here would have said the same about homosexuality...It frightens me how backward some people are.

We can all agree Pedophiles can not be 'cured'. It is a sexual preference, just like men, women, animals, feet, hands, toys etc. It's just a very WRONG preference.

If we take this, then we have to say that it isn't their fault. It IS their fault if they act on it, but to be turned on by children may not be something they can help.

They cannot be allowed into society as they are a danger to children. But at the same time, we are not barbarians. You cannot just castrate someone for being something they cannot help.

These people should be securely housed, but in a fair way. Not prison, more a secure facility. If they have offended, then yes, they should go to prison. For non-offending Pedophiles, help should be offered to them to curb their desires and allow them a life of peace, away from society without them being a risk to children.

Please let me answer this from the point of view who, for medical reasons, was castrated at age 25.

I was never a sex offender, nor would my conscience allow me to be one. There was a medical reason-varicoceles from injuries- that it was necessary to have my testicles removed.

I was in pretty severe chronic pain before my urologist agreed to the surgery. SUrgery was done one at a time in 1985, and in 1987 I had the empty scrotum removed. I did not want implants.

Can I still enjoy sex? You bet! I still have erections, and can perform in bed. My wife supported me through that ordeal and thought I was neat with only one thing between my legs rather than three.

I am only gay, not a pedophile. But castration is mistakenly thought to end sex drive and does not. diminish yes. To be effective the penis itself should be removed. Nothing to penetrate. Eunuchs could still have sex. Less desire but they syill got erections. Just that they could not ejaculate or father children. On the chemical castration, forget it completely. If they drink it negates the effects of the chemicals.

I am gay. And my penis is still very much a part of my sexual stimulus. However. I would gladly have it removed for the benefit of relationships. I do get erections and consider them annoying. erect it is just short of 2-1/2 inches. I have not ejaculated in 10 years but do cum And have great orgasms. On getting rid of my penis, I would to shed my last symbol of manhood and greatly improve relations with women. Beyond not having desire for penetration I would like to be incapable of it. Were it possible I would prefer to be a woman. But anything would be absurd. For me, I enjoy giving oral to men and women. That makes me mentally bi. But the reality in practice is being orally giving only to men.

Paedophiles should be hung, tortured, used for testing new medicines. anything, there is no punishment harsh enough for what they did. Now i've been conducting research into oppinion on the subject, a lot of people have said ridiculous things such as:

"what if a 17 year old boy has sex with his 15 year old girlfriend, should he be treated this way?"

Answer: Erm, no! the issue is the rape of the child, not the age of sex, however, a child under 10 cannot give consent as they do not understand the situation.

"A paedophile cannot control his urges, he needs help to deal with them"

Answer: Erm, The issue is again RAPE! the act being carried out. He made the decision to ruin a childs life for an hour of his own sexual gratification. this is what should be punished, if i was a paedophile i would fight my urges to my dying day, i wouldn't harm someone for my own pleasure. his decision to carry out the act should mean the ultimate punishment.

I believe that a paedophile in the making who is caught with porn, or hands himself in for having urges but not acting on them should not be seen as a monster, he should be commended for resisting and be provided with the neccesary help to fight the urges

"Surely such mutilation of another human being cannot be condoned in a civilized society (referring to capital punishment of paedophiles)"

Answer: And these people carry out civilized acts do they? What is a civilized society? i would regard it as one which treats everyone fairly and equally, where one can let their children go out to the park and not fear that they will be abducted, raped, tortured and murdered by someone for their own few hours of sadistic pleasure, where one does not have to put up with gun crime and anti-social behaviour because the government tackles these issues with the neccesary level of force needed to eliminate the problem. How can someone like this ever be let back into civilized society? are they civilized? is it civilized for the families of abused children to know that the person who killed their child, be it on the inside or physically spent a few years in prison, got relocated, a new identity, a job at Netto and is probably abusing more children.

I hate the society we live in today, Democracy doesn't work. the reason for this is that the government frequently ignores the views of the people (which compromises the whole idea of democracy) because it is too afraid to implement certain laws and punishments for fear of offending the liberal do-gooders. While this continues, more and more families will continue to be victims of these vile crimes, crimes that could have and should have been prevented by the authorities. Letting these people walk free makes them responsible for any acts these people carry out.

With adolescent sex offenders I've seen house arrest with an electronic bracelet work well. In other cases I've seen chemical means considered, but not accepted. I suppose it depends on age and ability to rehabilitate.
