  • Lay off the smack.
  • Get one of those mouth guards. They have them at Wal-mart, and Sports Authority, they make them for sleeping, and it'll help take the presure off your jaw, or you could go to your dentist and they can suggest one, or even make you one, but they're cheaper to get at Wal-mart. That was the advise of my oral surgeon.
  • Go to a dentist. They usually have mouth pieces that will help stop your teeth grinding issue...i had to do it for my daughter...and it works...;)
  • Stress Less or Valium
  • This is called Bruxism. There is no cure, but a custom made detal guard, fitted by an orthodontist will help a lot.
  • A mouth guard only treats the effect and not the cause of teeth grinding (bruxism). Dentists and medical 'experts' will say it is not treatable but I managed to treat my own case of 20+ year bruxism successfully. The key is not a magic pill but a combination of solutions such as diet, watching your stress levels, performing certain jaw exercises, taking precautions on how you open your jaw, lessen alcohol/cigarettes etc. You will want to treat teeth grinding as soon as possible once you detect it because it may lead to bigger problems such as jaw pain, TMJ disorders, cracked enamels and chronic headaches just to name a few.
  • To avoid grinding your teeth at night, I would recommend purchasing a night guard from totalgard.com .. they are affordable and high quality. They do not boil or mold their products .. meaning you won't spend an arm and a leg. I hope this helps!
