Named after Erasto B. Mpemba,who discovered this effect.He was freezing hot ice cream in a cooking class and noted that the hotter icecream froze before the colder icecream.When Erasto was in college,he asked his physics proffesor about it.The proffesor rediculed him,but later performed the expirment to find it was true.They published their findings in 1969.Aristotle had called this "antiperstasis",which is defined as 'the supposed increase in the intensity of a quality as a result of being surrounded by it's contrary quality."--Basically,the Mpemba Effect is when the top layers are warmer than the bottom,so it freezes that way,and through convection spreads fast.Thus,hot water freezes faster than cold water.
