  • The primary goal in all of good singing is to obtain a well balanced, "singable" voice that includes all registers ("chest", "head", etc.). With training, registers can be completely connected so that the singer (and listener) experiences one voice. Register breaks (and the problems they present) can seem daunting to some singers. However, problems with register shifts can be corrected with proper breath control/support and correctly focused resonance. It is important to remember that a problem with register shifts may signal a problem in a singers overall vocal technique. I personally had a very hard time with my register shifts and I made the problem worse by trying to "work through" my register shifts. When I learned to use proper breath control/support aligned with correctly focused resonance in the less challenging parts of my range my register shift problems took care of themselves.
  • Mezzo is half soprano and half alto. In most cases, Mezzo is when you can sing lower than a soprano and higher than an alto. You can be all soprano and all alto.
