Really?
I'm not picking on your taste in music but...really?
One of the best songs you've ever heard?
by guirion on August 15th, 2011
I really liked it.
by Trident on August 16th, 2011
I immediately liked it when I first heard it recently. I have a feeling I will always like it. I plan on getting the CD by the group.

@WelbyQuentin
Very cool :)
by Trident on August 19th, 2011
I don't know.
There's something about it that really annoys me. Like I said I'm not putting your taste in music down but this particular song kind of grates on my spine. Besides the lyrics aren't very nice are they? The other day I heard someone say it sounded like the Norway shooter wrote it.
by guirion on August 19th, 2011
The lyrics are not that bad. I've heard much worse. The band is good and they seem like great people. I can understand why people don't like them and the song but I have no problem with it.
by Trident on August 19th, 2011
Yeah, I've heard a lot worse concerning foul language and theme, but singing about shooting little kids is kind of bad.
by guirion on August 19th, 2011
[ Thanks Trident for the 'cool' wishes :) ]
Well, Trident and guirion, your discussion has enlightened me immensely! I can understand and see where both of you are coming from.
Though songs that grate one's nerves are purely subjective ( and I'm with Trident -- the song for me is musically good and one of the best recent songs I've heard ), I can see how the lyrics throw a damper on the song, guirion!
:)
I read this comment thread and then looked up the lyrics to the song because with this song, I was initially ( and still am ) drawn to the pleasant melody, nice harmonies, good voices, nice and interesting production values; I never listened closely to the words.
Well, I will say that this is the funnest damnedest happiest, happy-go-lucky-iest sounding song I've ever heard about shooting people and people running away!
:)
;)
I'm somehow thinking that the fun style of the music, contrasted extremely with the dark theme of the lyrics, is intentional by the band -- perhaps as some sort of statement? I may be talking out of my a** though.
Yet, to me, there is no denying the song is pleasurable for me to listen to. This band has a certain "something" that I find very valid and worthy.
Interesting.
Geez - - and the cool music video has nothing to do seemingly with the lyrics either. I like the music video's casual goofiness and laid-back, honest, "real-ness" portrayal of the band members ( and the glorious images of the band members hanging out on a roof in front of a setting/rising sun ) -- again, I keep returning to the fact that the band knows the song's lyrics and certainly are not advocating shooting people. Perhaps some sort of statement on life's horrors sometimes being thrown away in a nonchalant, fun manner?
Excuse my philosophical mutterings -- I base it on nothing but the past 45 minutes of thinking that it has taken for me to write these words of mine here.
I still really like the song and I'll still get the CD.
I'll probably add this song to the list of dark yet pleasurable songs -- Bobbie Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe" ( the Best Song I've Yet To Hear in My Life ), Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper," Alice Cooper's "Go to Hell," Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" and others I can't think of at the moment.
:)
But I'm glad you both were talking about this; I had no idea about the lyrics as of yet.
:)
And I also appreciate the respect you've given each other in your conversation and sharing your thoughts - - excellent.
When I come to the end of such a long comment, I again fear that I've rambled on too long saying nothing at all. It happens to me a lot, I think. Then I run and hide from answerbag for a while, feeling rather idiotic
:)
Repeating, though, I think you both make good points about the song .
You've certainly helped me get more intrigued with the band and song.
Be Well, Trident and guirion.
