  • Well, If a cat crosses my path when I'm driving the result could usually be considered quite unlucky.

Neither, I don't believe in any superstitions or that anything in the outside world can effect you, if you don't let it. Good or bad.

I take it as a warning. If I am driving and a black cat crosses my path I will either turn around and go back wherever i was if i am not too far away, or I will venture home slowly and be very alert. and once I am home I call my mom who calls some of the family and tells them to be cautious. We are just superstitious like that.

I definitely quantify luck by this method.... For the cat.

It is dark, and the cat is black. I'm travelling down a curvy road and don't see the cat cross my path in time to apply the brakes. Thump thump...

    Unlucky cat.

It is dark, and the cat is black. I'm travelling down a curvy road and and see shining eyes in the road... Because the cat is looking at me and paying attention. I apply the brakes, and the cat passes to the other side of the road without injury.

    Lucky cat.

Either way, the cat that is paying attention is always the luckiest and best fed.

It kind of works the same way for people.

I really don't pay attention to the lucky/unlucky thing. I'm more worried about whether or not the cat is homeless and if I need to act on that. :O)

I grew up thinking it was unlucky. But, I have two solid black cats (Mojo and Princess Smurf), and three black & white cats (Lucy La-La, Cocoa, & Tipper), so I'd be in trouble if I thought they brought me bad luck. For the most part, they are sweet, loving cats that bring nothing but good to my life!

i never took it as anything more than the thought that some neighbor may want to keep a tag on their kitty if they dont wanna scrape the poor thing off the ground

I had a roommate with a black cat and I occasionally tripped over her when going to the bathroom at night.

She was also a lap hog and I was deathly allergic to her.

Nope, black cats do not affect my luck in any way.
