If it's covered, a couple of days. Then it would start to be a bit stale for eating.
72 hours normally
Depends upon the kind of cake. If I need to keep a cake longer than a day or so, I freeze it. First, cut it into individual pieces. That way, every time you want a piece of cake, just take it out and defrost that one piece.
Only a few days in my house, too many of us like having a large slice of cake at strange times.
Depends on the cake. A regular layer cake, well covered, like in a cake dome, can last for 3-5 days in the refrigerator. SOme that have fresh fruit or whipped cream are very perishable and can barely make it past the first day. A cheesecake can last 5-6 days easy. SOme cakes, like fruitcakes and quick breads can last longer than a week when well wrapped and with alcohol soak.
It very much depends on the type of cake. A rich fruit cake will last for months if kept in an airtight container.
I've never had cake last long enough to find out!
Butter based cakes can last up to three months if frozen. Just take it out the morning before your guests arrive and cream or caramel etc. Do not cream your cake and then freeze it as the cream is not good after freezing and then defrosting.
If it was a perfect day for outdoor grilling would you still choose to cook something inside?

Thanks for the advice I will not eat that cake from the fridge anymore since there was a retirement party last week. I hope I didn't get sick or anything. Maybe the janator should dump it in the trash can bin.
