  • My guess would be synchros, but thats just a guess.
  • The guy that gave it to me told me that it was like a "clip" that help the gear stay in place...any thoughts? Thanks for all your help.
  • Unfortunately, whatever the exact part causing the problem (bad syncros, bent shift fork, damaged dog or gear teeth) it is almost certainly *inside* the transmission. If the shift linkage was the problem, it would pop out of other gears. You might just try to live with it until you burn out the clutch by starting off in second gear. That will give you time to save up for the transmission rebuild and save you the labor cost of removing the transmission twice (1 - rebuild, 2- change clutch). Good luck.
  • You more than likely have a bent shift fork. This fork controls your shifts for 1st and 2nd gear. Syncronizers only help gears to mesh and obtain the same speed for alignment. Hince sycronizer
