Question

Help answer this question below.

I screwed up and let my cilantro plant get too tall, now it's coriander (and I want cilantro). Can I cut the whole thing back or will that kill it?

Just pick it back. It's hardy, like parsley and similar herbs.

you can probably pinch off any new growth to encourage leafy growth.

Cutting off completely will probably kill it - you'd be better off planting a new one, and experimenting with the overgrown one...

- Well, it's already gotten about two feet tall, and all the leafy growth is gone and it's got flowers on it. Is it too late or should I still try pinching off the flowery tops?

- It wouldn't hurt to pinch of some of the flowers... and watch... if you start to see growth, pinch more...
  
  At this point, though, I'd let it continue as an "experiment" and go ahead and plant a new one... herbs generally grow pretty fast...
  
  Just keep an eye on the new one, pinch it regularly, and don't let it get away from you...
