  • I dont think a religious belife, or lack off, could ever undermine anything!
  • The United States was not founded on religious beliefs. The founding fathers made sure that church and state were as far apart from each other as possible. So ones beliefs had no bearing on the country.
  • Complete BS. As an atheist, I served, quite honorably, four years in the Army. The only thing I wanted to "undermind" (or is it undermine, never thought about it) was the quality of food the gave us!!! Not so good!!! In the 80's, most of us packed our own food. Ramen was our mainstay!
  • I thought I was entitled to my opinion................
  • Your assuming that the US was founded on Christian beliefs? You are sorely mistaken. The authors of the constitution went to great pains to insure that relgion would never impede or interfere with the workings of government. Thus I include the following quotes; "I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature." - - Thomas Jefferson "The Bible is not my book, and Christianity is not my religion. I could never give assent to the long, complicated statements of Christian dogma." - Abraham Lincoln I also site the following link; http://www.nobeliefs.com/jefferson.htmhttp://www.nobeliefs.com/jefferson.htm
  • The U.S was founded on liberty and the right to pursue happiness. Not on religious beliefs other than a moral code. Atheists attempt to undermine faith. In which they are hopelessly doomed to failure.
  • One of the founding principles of the U.S. is separation of church and state. Your religion or lack thereof has no bearing on your nationality, patriotism, etc. "I am not the Catholic candidate for President. I am the Democratic Party's candidate for President, who happens also to be a Catholic. " John F. Kennedy
  • Atheists as a group do not do any such thing. There could be one or more atheists who would like to undermine what the U.S. is founded on. Equally, there could be Christians, or ANYBODY, who would like to undermine what the U.S. is founded on. Most people who live here - atheists, Muslim-Americans, Buddhists, Christians, and all the other holders of various beliefs - admire and respect the U.S.'s founding principles.
  • Atheists are simply living their lives, not believing in god. We don't go around door-to-door trying to convert people to atheism, we don't send out anti-religious material. We simply DON'T believe in god, and we have every right to do so. The US was not founded on Christianity. In fact, many of the first settlers in the new world were PURITANS who were fleeing religious persecution in their native land.
  • The ones who are undermining what the United States was founded on are the Fundamentalist Christians. The United States was founded as the first secular nation in history, with the guarantee of complete freedom of religion for all of it's citizens. "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries." -- the Treaty of Tripoli of 1796, Article 11 Not only was the US not founded on Christianity, most of the founding fathers were not Christians- they were Deists. Deism is far closer to Atheism than to Christianity. Thomas Jefferson, for example, had nothing but contempt for Christianity, and said so openly in his writings. Modern Christian Fundamentalists are practicing historic revisionism- and most of the American public is so uneducated that it's working. They have added "in God we trust" to our money in the 1950's, and now everyone thinks it was always there. Their goal is to turn America into a Theocracy- exactly what the founding fathers were fighting against.
  • If by "Atheist" you mean people other than frothing-at-the-crotch Evangelical Christians, then yes. As you can figure out from reading elsewhere on this thread, we are a country and not a religious conclave. Sure, as an entity the US has a moral code, but we are not a religion nor is our country based on one. And please elaborate on "undermine". It sound to me like that "someone" was a deluded dupe who would rather submit to religious and political dogma than evaluate facts.
  • the founding fathers were perscuted for their religious beliefs and came here to practice their religion without being persecuted, while their religion was christianity.. they chose NOT to make it the national religion because they wanted people of USA to have religious freedom
  • Some may. Others may not. Many of the founding fathers of the U.S were Christians(as far as I know anyway), and I believe that they based most of their morals (if not all) in the U.S. Constitution and law on their beliefs and the freedom we are given by God Almighty to believe as we wish or worship God as we wish. America was founded on freedom of relgion, and seperation of Church and State has its ups and its downs, but I honestly think that the U.S. founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they saw America and what it is today. I hope that this is helpful. -In the Master's service. Thank you and God bless you!
  • this group is wel informed on this issue. I can't add anything new.
  • I am one a Christian who does not believe in a vast atheist conspiracy to make everyone atheists. I think some (not most, not all) are more visible and combative than in the past, but i don't feel threatened by them.
  • No, they do not. In fact out of all the people out there the Athiests are trying the hardest to keep this country on the fundamentals it was founded on. It's the Fundamentalist Christians who want to take this country and turn it into something it never was- A Nation Under God following only their principles and religion.
  • No, the christian conservative right has been trying to undermine for decades. And by the way, when someone says "someone just told me so" that is quite often an indicator of either an urban legand or propaganda.
  • From my limited understanding, atheism is unrelated to government. It's only when church and state overlap that some atheists may be heard complaining. Example: tax money spent on Christmas trees ....
  • No, atheists don't attempt to undermine anything. Athiests only bbelieve that there is no god. No considering we are supposed to have church and state saperated, whoever told you that is probably a religious nut who thinks that church and state should go hand in hand. They're making it up, and it's a stupid generalization.
  • I think you misunderstand the word Atheist. It doesn't mean "right-wing radicial Christian Theocrats", it means one who disbelieves in the existence of any deity. The US was solidly founded on Enlightenment philosophy, the writings of John Locke, Freemasonry principles, pre-Christian Greek and Roman democracy, and the right to self-determination. This includes freedom of (or from) religion. The original US currency did not have any reference to God/Deity on it, that was added after the Civil War. The original pledge didn't have any reference to God, either. That was added in the 1950s. The United States was not founded on theology; therefore, Atheists (disbelieve in deity and theology) would not undermine that.
  • You have a typo. Yes, theists try to undermine the basis of the US every day.
  • atheists DO NOT ever undermind the United States! We uphold thr constitution at every chance! I would however point several fingers at the MORON in the White House at the moment! Look at what HE has done, not only to undermind the reputation of the United States, but what he has done to the constitution, is criminal!
  • What a load of crap! This atheist is as American as the next person1 I love my country, and I'd like to see anyone prove differently! The only people I can see who are trying to undermine The United States, is the current administration, with his creepy Homeland Security taking away rights everywhere you look! And Bush changing the Constitution, every fricking time he turns around, just to try and save his miserable hide! I also support the troops, even though I think this war is illegal, because we are fighting the wrong people! Our war is with Saudi Arabia, where the terrorists came from, and Afghanistan! So, anyone who says that atheists are trying to undermine this country is full of shite!
  • No. But some, like me, would like to undermine the theocracy those who would make such a claim are trying to shove down our throats.
  • So would I.
  • No, they are using their legal rights as a citizen, to change laws that they find wrong.
  • It's a little messed up to proclaim separation of church and state and then write "in god we trust" on currency, swear the president in on a bible, constantly refer to god and the bible and hold other Americans to religious standards. The US was founded on personal rights and freedoms, not religion as some seemed to had hoped.
