Do you ever have random moments where you just feel glad to be alive and you feel appreciative of everything around you like grass and trees? Why does this spontaneous emotion occur at such unexpected and impromptu times?

first of all, I love the question, but, I don't think its abnormal at all.
    Here is why,
We find ourselves living in an increasingly joyless society, and Joy is looked at as inconsistent with our environment. "How can you be happy when...." fill in your own depressing world event here.
As an emotionally intact human being, we need joy and the simple joy of today, of wondering what comes next, is a very real part of this life. I've been through more than one experience that could have ended my life, and have come to the realization that enough people are down, and looking at life as one more fight after the next battle.
Spontanious joy, or happiness is sometimes what we need to get us through, other times it is, for me a celebration of being and doing..
Hope there is something here you can use.

  • I get that feeling when I'm listening to or playing music, and when I'm laying in the grass looking up at the blue sky. I almost get this urge to cry sometimes, because I realize how much beauty is still possible in the little things, and how much beauty is available if you just look at the things around you. =)

What a wonderful question. Yes I feel this type of spontaneous joy often and I am always very grateful for it. It shows me that there is proof that love is the most important thing in this world. Everything else disappears, but love, and that connection to life, is the one thing that can not be taken away.
