Help answer this question below.
Well, I can not speak for canadians, but!!! I am english, I am proud to be english! If someone calls me European, even though it is technically true, I would ask them not to do so again, I am english and wish to be called an english man, not a european. However, if someone called me French or German ect I would with out any doubt take HUGE offense!
The problem with canadians being called american is that it can be technicaly true, but I think if I were canadian I would take offense and prefere to be called North American rather than American (ofc canadian would be better).
I'm Canadian, Canada has a lot of the same things as far as architechture and entertainment, our government is more generous in many aspects. A big difference is that even if we're very similar, We're not into the habit of claiming to be the best country in the world without knowing how people in other countries live.
FUCK NO!
no
I am Canadian and proud to be. I know that pretty much all Canadians would hate to be American. If you travel the world, you'd find that people in most places do not much care for Americans
I can consider myself the Queen of England, doesn't mean that I am the queen of england, now does it?
I dont come from either country, but I don't understand how somebody from Canada could consider themselves American.
North American yes, just as somebody from Brazil is South American, but not American.
I would imagine that most Canadians would be upset and offended to have their country downrated to America.
Canada is a country in its own right and just happens to be on the North Americsn Continent
This is a bit like asking a Scotsman if he considers himself English. I am sure the answer would not be very flattering.
OH NOES, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!
No, I am a canadian through and through.
Not a chance...I'M CANADIAN, EH!
I would of thought you are Canadian as your country is Canada not America.
A Spanish person won't argue against the fact that they are European, whether it be Northern, Southern, or what have you. I have no idea why Canadians are so impugned by the fact that they ARE american, because they live in America.
From wiki:
Whether usage of America or the Americas is preferred, American is a self-referential term for many people living in the Americas. However, much of the English-speaking world uses the word to refer solely to a citizen, resident, or national of the United States of America. Instead, the word pan-American is used as an unambiguous adjective to refer to the Americas.
In addition, some Canadians resent being referred to as Americans because of mistaken assumptions that they are U.S. citizens or an inability—particularly of people overseas—to distinguish Canadian English and American English accents.
I was recently told that I am American because I live in North America...Do you feel American, Canadians?
I consider myself Canadian.
DDUUHH
NO
I hope I don't get down rated for this answer. There are several ways to understand the term America.
Geographically: America is a Continent sub divided in three, North America, Central America and South America.
Politically: It is to be understood that the USA is in and a part of North America and we have been incorrectly using America. USA means United States of America.
All the people who live in any of three Americas are American, this correctly and geographically speaking.
Yeah, I'm an American, because that's where I'm from. And no, I don't put Canadian stickers on my backpack when I go out of the country.
I lived in other countries and I was called American quite a bit. It didn`t really bother me, there are enough similarities. People mix up Australians and New Zealanders and english and Scottish, it`snot really a big deal.

I don't mind being called a North American at all. I am. I am not, however, an American :P. I feel that Canadians are far different in many ways than Americans, and am proud of that.

Indeed, Canadians are far diffrent from Americans and that is why saying Canadians are American is wrong imo.
by slothmister on June 2nd, 2007
imo, according to the dictionary canadians ARE american. Not north american, not psuedo american or pan american, just plain american. american
