  • Looks like there is a cultural tendency in the USA to solve many conflicts with the use of firearms. That is not the case in places like Japan. Sociologists, Criminologists, Psychologists and other experts who deal with human conduct have been trying to find a reason, but they haven't been able to find a convincing explanation. Those violent video games, movies, TV Shows, firearms, violent music, etc. are present all over the world, in Countries with very, very low crime rates. It seems to be Cultural.
  • Without a doubt it has got alot to do with the amount of firearms in the country and the fact that the US constitution gives citizens the right to bear arms. But it has a large population, around 300 million people,so the crime rate per capita isn't that bad compared to say,South Africa, which is a downright scary and violent place.Imagine if South Africa had the population of the US? Even here in Australia we have a crime rate that is comparable to that of the USA,if you look at it in terms of per capita/population size. The murder rates are quite similar between the two countries. So I don't think that the US has necessarily got the highest murder rates of anywhere else,it's just that there are alot more people.Indeed,I would probably feel safer walking the streets of Manhatton at night than some parts of Sydney or Brisbane.
  • Because more murders happen in the USA than the western democracies and many third world countries.
  • well... i think that we keep better statistics.. so i doubt that our rates are higher than any third world country
